from the episode "Daisy's Shotgun Wedding"
A Family Crisis
Prologue
Shortly after the problems dealing with Mamma Max and everything had
settled down, everyone went their separate ways again. Around June Bo met
a girl by the name of Kelly Harris who was employed with the Atlanta Police
Department at a party. They started dating shortly after that and have
continued to date up to the start of this story. Daisy went back to school
to finish her degree and Luke went back to the GA forestry service. Things
started changing for the worse around Christmas. Everyone except for Bo
went back to the farm for the holidays. Bo and Kelly were visiting her
parents and due to the weather they were unable to leave. Shortly after
Christmas Uncle Jesse died after a short illness and the lives of the kids
changed. Luke became withdrawn and started drinking. Bo, who was
unable to make it for the funeral due to the weather problems and was already
having some problems of his own, became even more depressed. Finally he
was able to make it home, but he and Luke soon started getting into fights.
This is where the story starts. It is several weeks into January and Bo
is getting ready to leave the farm house, unaware that another fight is
about to break out between him and Luke, one that may never get resolved
because what they don't know is an old enemy's of Bo's is about to be released
from prison. The Atlanta State Pen has released Frank Allen on account
of good behavior and he is looking to get Revenge.
Atlanta:
State Pen - afternoon
"Mr. Allen. It's time." said a guard stopping in front of Frank's cell.
Frank looked up and smiled. "Great." he said as he stood up.
The guard motioned someone to release the lock on the door and the
motioned for Frank to step out of the cell. "This way please," he said
Frank followed the guard down the hall and several minutes later they
were outside. As the guard walked Frank to the gate, he handed him some
bus fair.
"This is for the bus. It should be along shortly." he said.
"Thank you." Frank said.
The guard snorted "You can thank me by staying out of trouble. Don't
want to see you back in here."
"I promise not to get into trouble." Frank said, trying to keep himself
from laughing.
The guard shook his head "I seriously hope so." he said and then opened
the gate to the outside "Get." he added.
"Yes sir." Frank said and walked outside the prison walls. The guard
closed the gate behind him and then walked back inside leaving Frank by
himself
Frank watched the guard go back inside and chuckled softly under his
breath.
"I'll be getting into plenty of trouble, you just won't be able to
catch me is all." he said under his breath and then turned back towards
the street and smiled evilly. The bus was coming down the street. "Watch
out Bo Duke, i'm coming to get you."
Meanwhile. . . about the same time
Hazzard County: Duke Farm
Bo was packing to leave the farm. He wasn't sure where he was going,
but it probably would be to his sister's house. He couldn't stand to be
in the farmhouse one minute longer. He and Luke were getting into one to
many fights lately and it was getting to be to much. He wished that Uncle
Jesse was here so things could be normal again, but that was all it was,
a wish
"Bo," a voice asked, breaking into his thoughts.
Bo zipped his bag up and turned around. He smiled slightly when he
saw that it was Kelly, his girlfriend. She still had her police uniform
on and it had some snow on it.
"Kelly," he acknowledged
"Hey," she said and then gestured at his bag. "You've decided to leave
then?"
Bo nodded sadly "I can't stay here. I've tried to help him, but he
just won't let me." he said and then added "Is Luke still passed out on
the couch?"
Kelly nodded "Yeah," she answered. "I'm sorry," she added feebly
Bo snorted as he sat down on the bed "Don't be. It isn't your fault."
he said
"It isn't your fault either." Kelly told him as she came over and sat
down beside him.
Bo didn't look at her. "Isn't it?" he asked. "I should have been here.
Maybe Luke wouldn't be like this if i had been here when Uncle Jesse died."
"Bo, stop blaming yourself." Kelly told him "Maybe your right. Maybe
Luke wouldn't be like this, but you don't know that. There was no way you
could have seen this coming."
Bo shrugged, but didn't say anything.
Kelly sighed and hugged him "Stop blaming yourself ok." she said again.
"You had no way of knowing this was going to happen and i know you feel
bad for not being here, but it isn't your fault you couldn't get here."
Bo shrugged off her touch and stood up and faced her. "Yeah, your right
it isn't my fault," he said with sarcasm "Actually it's the weather's fault.
If it hadn't have been snowing so hard where we were then it wouldn't have
prevented me from being home for Christmas, for being her when my Uncle
died and for being here when they had the funeral." he said.
"Stop it Bo." Kelly told him "Just stop it ok."
Bo opened his mouth to say something further, but then closed it and
sat back down. "Why is this happening?" he asked, not looking at her.
Kelly laughed for a second "You know," she said, putting her arms back
around him "I use to ask myself that everyday after Jason died and you
want to know what i came up with?"
Bo looked at her "What?" he asked
"Things just happen. That's the way life is, you can't alter it. Maybe
it was time for him to die and maybe this is the way things are supposed
to be." she told him and then went on "If that's the case, then you can
change one of them. I don't think you want your cousin to drink himself
to death."
Bo sighed and looked back down, he knew she was right. "I'm so sorry
you had to see my family like this." he said. "Luke usually isn't this
way."
"So you keep telling me." Kelly quipped "I know Bo. Grief does pretty
strange things to people." she added
Bo looked back at her and smiled, then hugged her. "I'm also sorry
for the way i've been acting before this happened." he said into her hair.
"Is that wreck still bothering you?" she asked "Do you want to talk
about it?" she added
Bo shook his head "I can't Kelly, not know." he said and then sighed.
"Your going to have to tell someone sometime. You can't keep this bottled
inside of you." she said and then added "Would you talk to you sister?"
"I don't know," he said
Kelly was about to say something further, but there was a low laugh
coming from the doorway. They both looked up to see Luke leaning against
the door frame with a bottle of Jack Daniel's in his hand.
"Oh, don't stop talking on my account." he said with a slurred voice
"Please go on."
"Luke, this does not concern you." Kelly told him "Please leave."
Luke smiled and shook his head "No, don't want to."
Kelly stood up and stepped in front of Bo to block him. Bo stood up
to and put a hand on her arm.
"Don't Kel, i can handle this." he said and then looked at Luke
"The lady told you to leave Luke."
Luke pushed off the door frame and came into the room "And i said,
i didn't want to." he said.
"Don't come any closer." Kelly said holding her hand out in a warning
Luke smiled and took two more steps towards them "I came closer. What
are you going to do about it?"
Bo growled behind Kelly and Kelly put her arm out to prevent him from
doing anything. "Luke, if you don't leave the room, i will be forced to
use necessary measures to remove you from the room." Kelly threatened.
Luke laughed and looked at Kelly for a long moment. He could tell she
was serious, and was unsure if he wanted to really tangle with her. "Ok,
if you insist." he slurred
Bo and Kelly watched Luke turn around and stagger back out of the room.
However, when Luke got to the door, he turned and looked at Bo.
"Where did you find this one Bo?" he asked, laughing "She's got guts
and brains." he said and then went on "Brains, Bo. Something you lack."
"Luke, just stop it." Bo said "You don't mean any of this."
"Stop trying to tell me i don't mean any of the things i've been saying
to you lately." Luke told him "I mean every word of it."
"You bastard," Bo seethed
Kelly put a hand on Bo's arm "I think you better leave." she told him
Bo looked at her and then back at Luke. A mixture of pain and anger
swirling in his eyes. "Maybe your right." he said and then grabbed his
bag.
As Bo walked to the door, Luke blocked his way, preventing him from
going any further.
"Move Luke." Bo told him in a low dangerous voice
Luke raised his hands and moved aside. Bo brushed past him and started
walking to the door.
"Run Bo." Luke told his back "Run away, far away."
Bo turned around and glared at Luke "I'm not the one running away from
things." he said
Luke laughed and took a swig from the bottle "Yeah, well. I'm not the
one who didn't bother to show up for Uncle Jesse's funeral." he said "I
wonder what Uncle Jesse's thinks about that?" he added
Bo almost said something, but decided better of it. Instead he continued
to the door and Kelly moved around Luke to follow him. As Bo walked out
of the door and towards his car, Luke followed, standing on the porch.
"Come back here." Luke told him "I'm not through with you."
Bo ignored him and started getting into his car.
"Coward." Luke said
Bo stopped and looked at his cousin "What did you just call me?" he
asked
Luke snorted "You heard me Bo." he said "You are a coward and not to
mention a loser."
Bo slammed his car door shut and walked over to where Luke was standing.
"I am neither of those things." he said. "Stop putting me down." he added.
"Why? It's fun." Luke told him "Besides it's the truth."
"Bo, get in your car and leave. He has no idea what he's saying." Kelly
told him.
"Shut up Kelly." Luke told her.
"Don't tell her to shut up!" Bo snapped coming to her rescue.
"And what are you going to do about it?" Luke challenged.
Without warning Bo hit Luke across the face. Luke lost his balance
and fell to the porch floor. The bottle he had been holding, fell out of
his hand, smashed into pieces when it hit the porch
"You need help." Bo told him "More than i can give you."
"Oh, shut up." Luke said and then lashed out with his foot and tripped
Bo off his feet.
Bo fell to the ground with a loud thud. Kelly grimaced, but didn't
say anything. She knew it might be better for them if they fought this
out.
Luke staggered back to his feet and stood over Bo. Without warning
Luke kicked Bo in the side. Bo rolled down the steps and into the yard.
He grimaced and tried to get back to his feet. Luke was a little quicker
and came over and kicked him in the side again. Bo cried out and then reached
out a hand and held onto Luke's leg. Luke started to shake it off, but
Bo yanked on it hard, which caused Luke to fall back to the ground.
Bo got on top of him and held him down so he couldn't get up.
"I've had enough of you." Bo seethed "I can't take this anymore. I'm
leaving and whatever happens to you, happens to you. I no longer care."
"You never did." Luke said
"Bo, don't do anything rash." Kelly spoke up afraid of what was coming
next.
Bo looked at her briefly and then back at Luke "Stay out of this Kelly."
he said
"Go for it Bo." Luke challenged him "Kill me if you dare. Kill me like
you killed Uncle Jesse because you didn't even bother to show up for
Christmas. All you care about is you and your girlfriend and nothing else.
You broke his heart"
Bo let go a cry and slapped Luke across the face a couple of times.
Blood started running from Luke's nose, but Bo didn't let up.
Kelly finally moved and ran over to Bo. She grabbed his hand and tried
to stop him. Bo wasn't thinking rationally anymore and pushed her away.
He looked back at her for a second, his deep blue eyes flashing with anger
and rage. He then turned back and regarded Luke for a long moment.
"I hate you," he finally said
"Same here." Luke gasped.
Without thinking about what he was doing, Bo placed his hands on Luke's
throat.
"No Bo." Kelly cried
Bo didn't listen and started putting pressure on Luke's throat.
"Let go." Luke gasped
Bo increased the pressure, trying to strangle Luke.
Just then a truck pulled in the yard. Kelly looked to see how it was
and notice that it was Cooter and Daisy. Daisy jumped out of the truck
and before Kelly could stop her, ran over to where the boys were.
"Bo!!" she screamed. "Let him go. Don't do this. Please, don't do this."
"Stay out of this Daisy." he warned.
Luke looked at Bo in the eyes as darkness started overtaking his mind.
Suddenly there was a gun shot and Bo let up as he looked over at Kelly.
"That's enough Bo." she said. "Get off of him"
Bo staid there for a second
"I mean it." she added
Bo raised his hands and got up.
"Go." she said.
Bo looked back down at Luke, who was gasping for breath.
"Now!" she snapped
"I'm going!" Bo said as he walked to his car.
"I'll talk to you later." Kelly told him
Bo only nodded as he got into his car and drove away from the farm.
Kelly sighed and then walked over to where Daisy and Cooter were crouching
by Luke.
"Is he ok?" she asked
Cooter looked up at her and nodded "He's ok. We should probably get
him to the hospital though." he told her and then added "What the hell
happened?"
She sighed as Daisy looked up at her for an answer "I'll tell you when
we get to the hospital." she said "Come on, lets go."
Cooter and Daisy traded looks and then got Luke to his feet. They were
on the way to the hospital about a minute later.
*********************************************************
As things were not looking to good for the Dukes or their loved ones, Frank had made it into Hazzard. As soon as he got off the bus, he got a car and then started looking around for a good place to do his dirty work. Within a couple of hours, he had found one and after making sure that it was away from anything, he went out and started gathering a much information he could and then waited for the perfect time to strike.
*********************************************************
It was nearing dark when Bo pulled up to his sister's house. He had
spent the last several hours since leaving the farm, just driving around,
trying to clear his head. He had gone to Uncle Jesse's grave for a little
bit and then when it started snowing again, he decided it was best to move
onto Erin's.
As he navigated up the frozen, slippery driveway to Erin's front door,
he could only hope that she would take him in. He knew she had to know
by now what had happened earlier in the day.
Bo rang the doorbell and after about a minute Erin came to the door
with a phone up to her ear.
"He's here" she told whoever she was talking to.
She ushered Bo inside as she continued her conversation.
"I'll tell him. . . Yeah. . . Fine. . . Okay. . . Talk to you later.
. . Bye."
She punched the off button and put the phone down on a nearby table.
Erin didn't say anything for a moment as she looked at her twin brother.
"You know, after what you almost did to Luke today, i shouldn't even
let you in here." she said
"Fine then. I'll leave," Bo told her, walking towards the door.
"No you don't mister." Erin said "Come back here."
Bo stopped and turned around.
"Besides, i need to know if your hurting anywhere." Erin told him sighing
"Kelly said Luke kicked you rather hard."
Bo shook his head "I'm fine, it's nothing but a bruise."
Erin didn't looked convinced "Are you sure?"
Bo nodded "Yeah," he said and he was telling the truth. He knew when
a rib was broken and when one wasn't. And this time it wasn't, but it had
been rather close.
"Where are the kids?" he asked trying to change the subject
Erin sighed "Their with there father in Alabama." she said. "Greg went
there on business and took them to visit his parents."
Bo nodded wishing the the kids were here, so he could see them.
"We need to talk Bo." Erin told him, breaking into his thoughts.
Bo looked at her and shook his head. "Erin, I don't need you to play
psychologist with me ok. I'm not in the mood to have my feelings picked
apart right now."
"And i think you are." Erin said evenly
Bo gave her a dirty look
"You could have killed him Bo." Erin snapped
"That was my intention!" Bo snapped back, blue eyes blazing. "Look
Erin, all i want is a place to sleep. What i don't want is for you to use
your psychiatry skills on me. I don't need it, ok"
"Bo, just shut up and go sit down on the sofa." Erin told him, pointing
at sofa "You are going to talk to me if it kills you."
Bo stood there for a moment, testing the waters, but he finally gave
up and went and sat down. His sister was just as stubborn as he was, if
not more.
"Do you always treat your patients like this?" he asked as she came
over and sat down next to him.
Erin smiled slightly "No. Only my brother when he starts acting like
a total jerk." she teased
Bo sighed and looked down at his hands. Erin waited him out,
knowing he would say something eventually.
"Is Luke ok?" Bo finally asked, looking back up
Erin nodded "More or less." she said. "The doctors are keeping him
overnight just to make sure he's ok and to let him sober up."
"Sober up?" Bo said, bitter sarcasm in his voice "That's something
he ain't going to do."
Erin sighed "Let me put it to you this way." she said "I think by you
almost killing him, it did get through to him. Besides Cooter and Daisy
are going to be watching him and are not going to let him take another
drink."
"If you say so," Bo quipped.
"I do." Erin told him "Kelly told me what happened between you two.
Luke didn't mean any of what he said, you have to understand that. He was
drunk."
Bo laughed bitterly "He meant it. He meant everything he said and so
did I."
"No, you didn't and neither did he." Erin told him
Bo opened his mouth to say something, but Erin beat him to it.
"Bo, you weren't here when things happened so you don't understand.
Luke, is going through allot right now." Erin stopped for a second "In
a couple of days, when things have settled down, you are going to go talk
to Luke and he will tell you what happened. Then you will understand why
he's acting like he is."
"Has he been talking to you?" Bo asked
Erin shook his head "I can't get him to say anything to me. That's
half the reason, he's out of control. If i were talking to him, he wouldn't
be acting like he is, believe me, but i do have plan on having a talk with
him real soon."
Bo laughed a little at that statement and then sobered up "I guess,
saying sorry right now for almost killing him earlier won't help."
Erin shrugged "It does a little, if you really mean it" she said
Bo frowned at her "What's that supposed to mean?" he snapped.
"Just what i said Bo." Erin told him "Do you really mean what you just
said?"
Bo glared at her "Of course i mean it." he snapped "I could never actually
want to kill Luke, i just lost my temper. He said a few things that really
got to me and I lost it. "
Bo stopped and leaned his head against the back of the sofa and stared
a the ceiling, sighing again.
Erin jumped on that "What is it Bo, tell me."
Bo didn't say anything for a moment. "I feel lost." he said still staring
at the ceiling. "I haven't felt this way in along time."
"Kelly mentioned you had a close call on the racetrack. Does you saying
that, have to do with the wreck?"
Bo sighed "In some way yes." he admitted "After that happened, i just
started thinking alot about things and then Uncle..." his voice broke slightly
"Uncle Jesse died and it's only made things worse." he said "I just feel
so lost and i don't know what to do about anything anymore." he stopped,
shrugging."Luke picking at me didn't help, and that's pretty much why the
fight started and him telling Kelly to shut up." he shrugged a small smile
crossing his face "I had to defend her honor."
"You love her." Erin said, it was more a less or statment.
Bo smiled "Yeah." he said "I'm just so sorry she has to see things
like they are." he said and then added, tears welling up in his eyes "I
wanted her to be able to know Uncle Jesse, but. . ." he broke off
Erin reached out and touched him on the shoulder "It's ok Bo."
Bo looked at her, tears starting to flow down his face "No, it's not
Erin." Bo told her bitterly "Nothing is ok, anymore."
Erin leaned over and hugged her brother, feeling him shaking slightly
"Why, did he have to die?" Bo asked
Erin sighed "I don't' know Bo. It was just his time." she said.
"I miss him," Bo sobbed "I miss him so much."
"I know you do," Erin said soothingly. "Go ahead Bo, let it out." she
said hugging him harder
She held him while he cried.
Almost a half hour later, Bo had spent his tears. Erin smiled at him
as Bo sniffed and blew his nose.
"You ok?" she asked
Bo nodded "I'm sorry." he said
Erin shook her head "It's ok, i think you needed it." she said and
then added "This is part of the reason i sent the kids off with their father.
They needed something to cheer them up. I know the twins are to young to
really understand, but Rachel is old enough to be upset by all this. She
and Uncle Jesse were pretty close."
"How old is she now?" Bo asked, knowing he should have known his own
niece's age.
Erin smiled thinking about her kids. "Rachel is 5 and the twins are
2"
Bo nodded and Erin looked at him for a long moment.
"Things are going to be just fine Bo." she said "Your going to stay
here a couple of days and I will get your problems straightened out and
then i will go talk to Luke."
"I don't know if it's going to help Erin." Bo commented.
"It will." Erin assured him "Everything is going to be ok. Ya'll will
be talking in know time and then we can finally grieve together like we
should have been to start with." she said and then at his doubtful look
"Trust me Bo. Everything is going to be ok."
Little did she know how wrong that statement was.
Two days later, things were looking a little bit better. Bo and Erin
talked through what was happening and she got him to feeling pretty much
ok. Luke on the other hand was sober and not liking what he was seeing.
He knew that he was going to have to make things better and was going to
talk to Bo as soon as he got up enough courage to apologize. Both Bo and
Luke each decided, without knowing it, to talk to each other the next day.
Everyone went to bed that night not knowing that something was about to
happen.
It was the afternoon of the next day before Frank decided to strike.
He had waited until then to make sure that Erin was at work and would not
be coming back home for a while
He drove up and parked next to the driveway leading to the house. He
looked up to make sure that Bo's car was still in the driveway and it was.
Leaning over, he pulled a gun out of the glove compartment and put it in
one of the pocket's in his jacket. After putting a hat on, he got out of
the car and walked up to the house. He then knocked and Bo came to the
door about a minute later.
"I'm having car problems." Frank said, jerking a hand back towards
his car. "Can I use your phone."
"Sure," Bo said, and then motioned for Frank to come in.
Frank smiled as he walked into the house and heard Bo shut the door
behind him. He quickly took the gun out of his jacket and turned, aiming
it at Bo.
Bo turned from closing the door and then froze as he saw the gun. "What
is this?" he asked
Frank smiled and then took his hat off. "I'm here to get you?"
Bo eyes went wide and he sucked in a breath. "Frank" he said
Frank smiled "You remember. I'm touched." and then motioned for Bo
to raise his hands.
Bo held his hands up and then glared at Frank "How did you get out
of jail?" he asked
"I got out on good behavior." Frank told him and then added "And now
that i'm out, i'm going to get my revenge on you."
"Then go ahead and kill me." Bo challenged
Frank shook his head "No, i want you to suffer." he said "Now, you
and i are going to walk out of this house like nothing is wrong and we
are going to get in the car that is parked on the street."
"What if i don't want to go with you." Bo said
Frank narrowed his eyes "Your coming and don't try to get away. Otherwise
i will kill you." he said and then motioned for Bo to open the door.
Frank quickly dropped a note on the table near him and then walked
to the now open door. "Walk to the car. Remember i have a gun, so don't
try anything stupid."
Bo nodded and started walking for the car. He looked around a little
trying to see if any of the neighbors were out, but no one was around.
He stopped once he was at the car and Frank stopped directly behind him,
the gun pointed in his back.
"Get in." Frank said
Bo did as he was told and Frank walked around and got in the drivers
side. He wanted to knock Bo out so he didn't know where he was going, but
someone might see that and he didn't want to risk it right now.
"Where are you taking me?" Bo asked as Frank started the car up and
pulled away from the curb.
"You'll find out." Frank said
Frank drove until he got outside of Hazzard and he knew none was around.
He stopped the car and got out. He walked around and opened the passenger
side door. "Get out." he said roughly
"What are you doing?" Bo asked
"Changing cars, so if anyone saw us in this one, they won't be able
to trace the other one. It's near here, so lets go." he said and then reached
in a grabbed Bo by the arm and pulled him out of the car.
"Hey!" Bo protested
"Move." Frank said and jabbed the gun into Bo's back.
They walked into the woods and about five minutes later, came upon
the car Frank had stashed away.
Without warning and before Bo could even have time to react, Frank
struck Bo across the back of the head with the gun. Bo fell down onto the
snow covered ground, unconscious. Frank smiled, put the gun away and reached
down and pulled Bo over to the car. He opened the back seat and got Bo
into it. He tied his hands and feet and then put an old blanket over him.
Frank then closed the door and got into the driver's seat and started for
the abandoned farm he had picked out for this occasion.
Frank drove, sliding sometimes on a few places of ice on the roads,
but managed to make it to where he was going about 20 minutes later. Making
sure no other cars were around he pulled off into an old run down driveway
which lead an old farm. It was the old Nelson place that had been abandoned
over 10 years ago and Frank had picked it because of that and the fact
that it was about 20 miles outside of Hazzard and it would be awhile before
anyone thought to look out here. By the time they thought of it, he would
be long gone and Bo would be dead.
He pulled the car into the barn and jumped out and closed the door
behind it. He then shut down the car and opened the backseat. Reaching
over and pulling the blanket off of Bo, he saw that he was still out of
it . Grunting, he pulled him out of the car and put him over his shoulder.
Frank then walked to the barn door and left the barn and walked to the
old farmhouse. Going inside, he shut the door with his foot. Walking to
a chair he set Bo down in it and found some rope. He tied his hands and
feet and then put a gag over his mouth. Going over to a bag, he reached
out and pulled out some smelling salts. He walked back over to Bo and and
opened the bottle and put it under Bo's nose.
A moment later, Bo jerked and opened his eyes. He shook his head to
try and clear it.
"Welcome to you new home for the next couple of days." Frank said
Bo looked up at Frank and glared "Your not going to get away with this.
My family. . ." he stopped when Frank started laughing.
"I doubt much that your family cares about you." he said "I've been
around for the last two days and i know what's going on."
"They'll still come." Bo said
Frank shrugged "Let them come. I'll kill them to." he said "I doubt
they'll find us out where we are now anyway, or at least they won't until
your dead." he added and then walked over to the bag again and brought
out a bottle and a needle
He walked back over to Bo and Bo tried to get away from him, but the
ropes held him in place.
"What is that?" he asked as he watched Frank load the syringe
Frank looked at him and smiled "You'll find out." he said and then
moved to inject Bo with the drug.
"You won't get away with this." Bo said as he watched the needle come
closer
Frank reached out with his free hand and backhanded Bo across the face.
"Shut up." he said and then injected Bo with the drug.
